Mens Timeless Wardrobe Staples
Here are my top pieces that every guy should have in their wardrobe. These pieces are classic, versatile, and form the foundation of a well-dressed man. Remember, each piece should not only look great but also make you feel confident and, most importantly, true to yourself.
Button down shirts
Polo Chambray / Uniqlo Oxford / J.Crew Shirts / Expedition Shirt
Start with five button down shirts that you’re excited to put on everyday. I would suggest a white oxford, a blue chambray, a safari shirt, and two with some color or pattern.
Jackets for layering
Le Mont Chore Jacket / Todd Synder Chore Jacket / Barbour Vest / Toddy Snyder Blazer / Buck Mason Parachute Blazer
Consider having three to four layering options in your wardrobe. A blue French chore jacket, especially vintage, is a personal favorite. A simple wool or nylon vest can be a versatile piece to layer over a t-shirt or button-down shirt. Another essential is a well-fitting blazer in classic colors like navy, grey, or, as I show here, olive green.
T-shirts
Buck Mason Field Spec T / Carchived
Most guys have too many T-shirts stuffed in the deep dark corners of their closets that they never wear and that fit horribly. Instead, focus on finding two or three high-quality T-shirts that fit your body type perfectly. For my styling clients, I often recommend the Field Spec T from Buck Mason. One of my personal favorites is from Carchived. Sign up for their e-mail notifications to hear about their next drop.
Sweaters
Reigning Champ Sweatshirt / Polo Cable Knit Sweater / Kule Striped Sweater
Two, maybe three, well-chosen sweaters are all you need. Opt for one knit and one classic sweatshirt, both of which can be layered over a button-down or worn on their own. Stick to versatile colors like navy, grey, cream, or olive green for maximum flexibility.
Pants
Blue Jeans / Navy Chinos / Work Pants / Military Pants
Call me crazy, but I think you only need three pairs of pants in your wardrobe: a pair of medium-wash denim, navy chinos, and a lighter option—whether denim, linen, or, as I have here, vintage work pants. For added variety, you could include a bonus pair of military-style chinos.
Shoes
Logan Loafer / Desert Boots / New Balance / Adidas
Three pairs of shoes are all you need: two leather options and a sneaker. I recommend a classic loafer, though a traditional buck is also a great choice. A chukka boot is versatile, pairing well with both suits and rugged jeans. For sneakers, opt for a timeless design, such as those from New Balance or Adidas.
Bags
Tote Bag / Weekender Duffle Bag
I’m not one for backpacks so i’m drawn towards a rugged tote bag like this one by Todd Snyder. Throw your laptop in it, or your gym clothes. For those heavier lifts, I love this canvas weekender from J.Crew. Its classic and versatile, I’ve even taken it camping.
Belts
Western Belt / Hoof Pick Belt
For belts, simply choose a brown one and a black one. I prefer those with a brushed or distressed metal buckle.
Hats and sunglasses
Akila Sunglasses / Fedora / Polo Cap
Choose sunglasses that you love and invest in a high-quality pair.
While not everyone is a hat person, I find that these two are my go-to choices. They easily complement most of my outfits and are what I reach for day after day.
